Gary Player to Celebrate 90th Birthday Nov.1, Confirms Place in 2025 PNC Championship Field

October 29, 2025
ORLANDO, OCT. 29, 2025
South African golfing legend Gary Player, who turns 90 years old Nov. 1, has confirmed he will compete in the 2025 PNC Championship taking place Dec. 18-21, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes.
Player has enjoyed a record-breaking career and this remarkable athlete will make history once again when he becomes the oldest player to tee it up in a PGA Champions event at the PNC Championship in December.
One of the most successful golfers of all time, Player has won nine majors, nine senior majors and over 150 golf tournaments worldwide. He was the first non-American to win all four majors and is one of only six golfers to do so.
A respected and vocal advocate for a healthy diet and keeping fit, Player walks with the confident gait of a man many decades years younger. His remarkable energy, competitiveness and passion for golf could possibly only be matched in the field by the PNC Championship’s youngest competitor, 14-year-old Will McGee!
With his grandchildren yet to hold their annual play off to confirm who has the honor of partnering with him, Player commented, “I certainly don’t feel like I am about to turn 90, I am feeling fit and very much looking forward to teeing it up at the PNC Championship in December. I am not sure there could be a better tonic for staying young and loving life than being able to play golf with your family, while enjoying the thrill of competing against so many golfing greats and their families.”
Limited tickets are still available at pncchampionship.com. To ensure the unique feel of the event for both players and spectators, the PNC Championship is a limited capacity event.
Last year’s star-studded field won 69 majors and 40 senior major titles and more than 1000 international titles. There were five past champions in the field and two teams making their debut. Then World No. 1 Nelly Korda was the highest ranked with more than half the field having reached the pinnacle of World No. 1 during their distinguished careers.
This is PNC Bank’s 14th year as the tournament’s title sponsor, having recently renewed their commitment to the event as title sponsor in a multi-year deal. The event was renamed the PNC Championship in 2020, reflecting the world class talent and special bonds that characterize this inclusive family tournament.
The tournament, which will be broadcast live across NBC, GOLF Channel and Peacock, attracts major champions whose victories this year span 1959 to the present day.
The PNC Championship has continued to evolve and develop since the inaugural tournament in 1995, when 10 major winners gathered with their sons. The tournament now features 20 major champions and their relatives competing in a two-day, 36-hole scramble for the Willie Park Trophy. To qualify for the PNC Championship, players must have won a major championship or The Players Championship. Their partner must not hold any playing status on a professional Tour.
